PC Bonus Tip: Name Changes on the Cheap

How to get your ingame name change for 180 credits using the character transfer round-trip method

Now that we can add spaces to our names, lots of people want to do character name changes. These cost 1000 Cartel Coins or millions of credits. Here’s how to do it for 180 Cartel Coins.

Caveat: Transferring resets your friends lists and empties your ingame mail and items on the Galactic Trade Network. It will also require you to rejoin your guild.)

I will use an example. You have a character named LukeSkywalker and you want to change his name to Han Solo.

1- Create a brand new character on your home server named Han Solo (this reserves the name.)

2- Get LukeSkywalker ready to transfer servers temporarily. Check your character and make sure you empty out his mail, it will all be deleted, take any active listings off the GTN or you will lose them.)

3- Go to SWTOR.com and transfer LukeSkywalker to another server of your choice. This brings your Legacy with you so you now have all your decos and your Legacy perks on the new server, even after you transfer off.

4- Log in to LukeSkywalker on his new server. (This may be unnecessary, but I do it to be sure I get the legacy perks transferred as a bonus.)

5- Log into your home server and create a new character named LukeSkywalker. This step ensures that the name will be unavailable when you bring your toon back, thereby forcing the complimentary name change.

6-At SWTOR.com, transfer LukeSkywalker back to your home server. (It says you must wait 72 hours, but this is no longer true.)

7- Log back into your home server and DELETE the fake Han Solo name holder character

8- Log into your transfered character who now has a name like D&^$GSKW^5J and requires a free name change. Change your character’s name to Han Solo.

You have just done your name change for a fraction of the cost of buying it from the cartel market or GTN!
